A JOURNEY THROUGH OUR HISTORY

From humble beginnings, when we started as a small steam specialist contractor founded in 1983, we have grown into a global reference in steam and other fluid systems. Our journey reflects continuous innovation, resilience, passion for engineering excellence, and steady international growth.

1983

A bold beginning

Following the economic challenges after Portugal’s April Revolution in 1974, a young and determined technician, Mr. Fernando Soares founded the company alongside three business partners, driven by a strong entrepreneurial spirit.

Initially focused on assembling steam, compressed air, and thermal oil systems, Mr. Soares also began designing equipment that is still in production to this day, including humidity separators and heat exchangers.

1984-1990

First engineering milestones

The following years were marked by important milestones such as the sale of the first float head heat exchanger (1984), condensate recovery unit (1989), and shell & tube heat exchanger (1990).

In 1988, driven by ambition and a vision for growth, Mr. Fernando and his wife, Mrs. Adozinda Cachulo, founded Eurofluido, marking the transition from installer and reseller to engineering and manufacturing. The company expanded into the design and manufacture of humidity separators, heat exchangers, reservoirs, and other equipment, while also integrating steam traps, pressure-reducing valves, and other accessories from other brands.

1992

The ADCA brand is born

Named after the initials of Mr. Soares wife and business partner, Mrs. Adozinda Cachulo, the ADCA brand was registered with the first exports beginning the following year, marking the beginning of Valsteam’s international journey.

1995–1998

Focusing on manufacturing

By 1995, the first ADCA pressure regulators were launched, followed by the construction of the first dedicated factory in Sintra in 1996, centralising operations and introducing automated production.

The company then shifted fully towards manufacturing, ending third-party assembly and resale activities to become fully self-sufficient in production, finishing, and welding operations. After selling the family’s personal assets to pursue the real dream, Valsteam Engineering SA. was born with established headquarters in Lisbon and a new factory in Leiria.

2001–2006

Quality recognition & Growth

Following exponential national and international growth, the company achieved ISO 9001 certification in 2001.

The following year, the company was renamed Valsteam ADCA Engineering S.A., aligning the corporate identity with the internationally recognised ADCA brand. The following years saw the launch of the UNIADCA range, the start of the ADCATrol control valve project, and the entry of the second generation into the family business.

2010–2012

New brand & New facilities

2010 was a landmark year with the launch of the ADCAPure range and the entry of another second-generation family member into the company. A brand new 22,000m² factory, completed in 2012, brought all departments under one roof and paved the way for further expansion.

2014–2016

Growing & Innovating

A second factory dedicated to metallic construction added 2,650 m² for welding, testing, and SKID assembly operations. This expansion optimised production flow and introduced new CNC machinery. In 2016 was time to welcome the third member of the second generation.

2018–2019

Test bench & Another big expansion

A 329 m² modern test bench and training facility was inaugurated in 2018, followed by a 7,000 m² expansion that doubled the production area.

2019-Today

Continuous investment

Another major expansion added over 7,000 m² of covered space, doubling production capacity and enabling larger-scale manufacturing, testing, and assembly operations.

In January 2024, founder Mr. Fernando Soares passed leadership to his eldest daughter, Ms. Mónica Soares, the current CEO, while remaining on the Board of Directors.

Recent years have also seen continued investment in innovation, including a modern painting booth, advanced machining tools, and marking equipment, strengthening production capabilities for the future.
